In everyday life, individuals encounter thousands of newsworthy events every day. But he sees very few of these events in the news reports. In addition to the quantitative and structural characteristics of the events, many events from the publication policies of the mass media to the threshold watchdog institution are effective in the formation of this situation. Therefore, according to the structure of the mass media, the function of informing is undergoing changes. One of the most important indicators of the change in the news is the discourse and language. In particular, discourse with an ideological structure becomes more visible in social events, mass movements and violent events. In this context, the reflections of the mining accident that occurred in the Soma district of Manisa on the Kanal D Main News were analyzed with Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis between 13-19 May 2014 and it was tried to reveal what kind of ideological discourse was put forward in the news. Within the scope of the study, it is seen that the government and opposition institutions have become the main actors of the discourse created, while it is seen that the elements of tabloidization have increased in the news in the later stages of the accident.
