The artistic use of fiction and staging has a long history. When we look at fiction in the context of photography, it is observed that the first examples of photography emerged with the invention of photography and staging was frequently used in the period. Although there has been a stance against staging and editing with the direct photographic understanding, it has become an approach that is widely used, especially with the postmodern period. Today, in the context of cinematography, quite different forms and methods are used on the basis of designing staging and fiction, which have been transformed into artistic understanding by important names. For this reason, in the current study, first of all, an investigation was made on the examples of historical fiction and staged photographs, and the examples within this context were examined and the historical process till today was evaluated. The concept of tableau photography adopted by Jeff Wall, which forms the basis of the current study in staging and fiction photography has been evaluated through reality and photography. In addition, in this research, especially within the scope of tableau photography, which Wall put forward, although it is quite far from a snapshot, the photography approach, which is still called "near documentary", was discussed and analyzed in the axis of Wall and case studies.

Kurgu ve sahnelemenin sanatsal anlamda kullanımı oldukça geçmişe dayanmaktadır. Fotoğraf bağlamında kurguya bakıldığında ise fotoğrafın icadıyla birlikte ilk örneklerinin ortaya çıktığını ve sahnelemenin dönem içerisinde sıklıkla kullanıldığı görülmektedir. Doğrudan fotoğraf anlayışı ile birlikte sahnelemeye ve kurguya bir karşı duruş söz konusu olmuş olsa da özellikle postmodern dönemle birlikte oldukça fazla başvurulan bir anlayış haline gelmiştir. Günümüzde sinematografi bağlamında da önemli isimler tarafından birer sanatsal anlayış haline dönüştürülen sahneleme ve kurgu anlayışı tasarlama temelinde oldukça farklı biçim ve yöntemler kullanılmaktadır. Bu nedenle çalışmada öncelikle tarihsel kurgu ve sahnelenen fotoğraf örnekleri üzerinden bir inceleme yapılmış ve doğrultudaki örnekler incelenmiş ve günümüze kadar tarihsel süreç değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmanın temelini oluşturan ve aynı zamanda Jeff Wall’un da benimsediği tablo fotoğraf kavramı, gerçeklik ve fotoğraf üzerinden değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca çalışmada özellikle Wall’un ortaya attığı tablo fotoğraf kapsamında, aslında anlık bir enstantane görüntüsüne oldukça uzak olmasına rağmen yine de “belgesele yakın” olarak isimlendirilen fotoğraf yaklaşımı Wall ve örnek çalışmalar ekseninde ele alınıp incelemesi yapılmıştır.
