Silk is a very valuable textile material known for its natural structure, fineness, shine, soft texture, flexibility and durability for thousands of years. Silk is obtained by pulling from the cocoon knitted with the secretion of the silkworm. The yarn obtained is used in the weaving industry and turns into a very valuable and expensive fabric. Silk, which has been produced since 2600 BC and has increased its value to the present day, is the most valuable natural raw material of the textile and weaving industry for centuries. Silkworm breeding has a very important effect on the economic and cultural development of countries. With the start of production in our country, it has had a great impact on both cultural and economic development. Humanity, affected by the beauty and nobility of silk, has carried silk weaving into all areas of life. It has paved the way for the use of silk, which has become an attraction by producing silk carpets, various dresses, scarves and shawls. The need to market and trade silk, which is believed to have been produced in China for the first time, arose, and this resulted in the formation of the silk road extending to Europe via Anatolia and the Mediterranean. While the Silk Road was instrumental in a fusion between eastern and western cultures, it also provided the commercial revival of the cities on the silk road. One of the provinces where silk production is instrumental in its commercial and cultural development is the Kulp district of Diyarbakır city.
