INTERNATIONAL DESIGNERS’ PROCESSES OF CREATING AND IMPLEMENTING METAPHORS IN VISUAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN

In this research, the subject of Metaphor Creation and Application Processes in Visual Communication Design was discussed. In the study, the relationship between visual communication and metaphorical expression was examined, and the original definitions were brought to visual metaphor by integrating with the views of national and international designers and academicians on visual metaphor. The research focused on the classifications, types and application areas of visual metaphors which emerge repeatedly throughout the literature reviewed, expert opinions were considered and the findings were obtained by using the semi-structured interview form and the thematic analysis method about which approaches to use to create visual metaphors. The findings and visual metaphor application processes are stated together with their stages. This research reveals, how national and international visual communication designers define the visual metaphor, the processes of creating visual metaphor, and with which approaches they form the visual metaphor with all stages.
