DİJİTAL BEDENİN ONTOLOJİSİ: POSTHÜMAN VARLIK VE İLETİŞİMDE BEDENSEL SİMÜLAKR

This study aims to reconceptualize the ontological status of the body in the age of digital communication. In the existing literature, the digital body is predominantly addressed within the framework of representational, visual, and cultural practices; however, these approaches remain insufficient in systematically and comprehensively examining the ontological status of the body. In this context, the study focuses on the question of whether the digital body is merely a representational extension or should be understood as a distinct mode of being in its own right. The study is based on conceptual analysis and comparative theoretical reading. The analytical framework is structured through Martin Heidegger’s ontological approach, Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of the body, Jean Baudrillard’s theory of simulation, and Rosi Braidotti’s posthuman subject approach. Through these theoretical axes, the dimensions of being, experience, representation, and subjectivation of the digital body are re-evaluated within a relational totality. The study argues that the digital body cannot be reduced to a level of representation; rather, it should be conceptualized as a multi-layered ontological mode of being constituted within experiential, technological, and networked relations. In this respect, it is demonstrated that while the digital body tends toward reduction within regimes of simulation and signification, it simultaneously operates as a relational process that generates new modes of existence. By systematizing debates on the digital body along an ontological axis, this study repositions fragmented approaches in the literature within a coherent theoretical framework and contributes to rethinking the relationship between body, technology, and being within the context of the sociology of communication.
